All About

Beehive Falls

DANGER: Sheer cliffs and waterfalls. One slip could be fatal—serious injury or death may result from walking near the edge. Keep to the track. Supervise children closely.

Immerse yourself in the serene sandstone wilderness of the Northern Grampians (Gariwerd) at Beehive Falls, one of the region’s most picturesque short walking trails. Nestled near the Mount Difficult range along Roses Gap Road, this 2.8 km return walk winds gently alongside the fern-lined banks of Mud Hut Creek, leading visitors into a sheltered sandstone amphitheatre.

The main highlight is the seasonal waterfall, which drops dramatically over honeycomb-textured rock faces into a calm, rock-ringed pool below. The walk comes alive in winter and spring, when seasonal rainfall fuels the cascading falls and vibrant spring wildflowers bloom across the surrounding eucalyptus woodland. With its moderate terrain featuring natural rock steps, tranquil creek crossings, and spectacular surrounding cliff views, Beehive Falls offers an ideal nature walk for families, casual hikers, and landscape photographers visiting Victoria's High Country and Grampians region.

Activities

  • Waterfall & Nature Viewing: Watch seasonal cascades flow into fern-lined rock pools framed by massive sandstone bluffs.
  • Bushwalking & Hiking: Follow the 2.8 km (approx. 1 to 1.5 hours return) Grade 2 to moderate trail through native grass woodlands.
  • Wildflower Spotting: View colorful spring wildflower displays along the trail during peak blooming months.
  • Birdwatching & Wildlife Spotting: Spot native forest birds, kangaroos, and wallabies traversing the Mud Hut Creek valley.
  • Landscape Photography: Capture long-exposure waterfall photos, rock pools, and the rugged rock formations of the Northern Grampians.

Facilities

  • Car Park: Designated off-street parking area at the trailhead on Roses Gap Road.
  • Trail Signage: Clear directional, safety, and national park interpretive signs along the walk.

(Note: Public amenities like flush toilets and picnic areas are available nearby in the Halls Gap and Northern Grampians day-use reserves).

Important Information

Guidelines

  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions. Ensure to check for any updates relating to any warnings that may be issued for the area, and check for the opening and closing times.
  • Always enjoy waterfalls from trails and marked viewing points. Do not climb over barriers as cliff edges and slippery surfaces may cause injury or death.
  • Only swim where permitted. Don’t jump from cliff edges into water bodies.
  • Swimming near or under waterfalls can be dangerous due to strong currents, submerged hidden rock ledges and other dangers. The force of a waterfall can be incredibly strong and unfortunately, many people have drowned. Follow warning signs and take caution.
  • Wear suitable footwear and ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements.
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place it in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • Ensure to let a responsible adult know of your plans and report back into them once you have finished exploring for the day.
  • Leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but memories.
