Heart-Pumping Ridges and Panoramic Views over Hinze Dam

Walking trail: Grade 5 | 6.7km return hike | 2.5 - 4 hour return

Terrain: Steep, unshaded gravel fire trails transitioning into an unmarked, narrow dirt footpad and a highly exposed rocky ridge line.

Best Time to Visit: May to September (the cooler months). The exposed volcanic rocks trap intense heat in summer and become incredibly slick and dangerous during the wet season or after recent rainfall.

Move over standard waterfall circuits—the Pages Pinnacle Hike is the Gold Coast Hinterland’s best-kept secret for true adventure lovers. Hidden on the boundary of Springbrook National Park and the Numinbah Valley, this rugged, off-the-beaten-path trail trades tourist boardwalks for a steep, rewarding volcanic ridge climb.

Known traditionally to the Yugambeh people as Kundohikulli (meaning "rock-shaped boat"), Pages Pinnacle is an ancient rhyolite volcanic plug left behind by the Tweed Shield Volcano. For hikers who tackle its steep fire trails and epic rock scrambles, the reward is unmatched: breathtaking, 360-degree panoramic views overlooking the emerald-green waters of Hinze Dam, the rolling peaks of Lamington National Park, and the distant glittering skyline of the Gold Coast.

Highlights of the Pages Pinnacle Trail

  • The Razorback Ridge & Knife-Edge Scramble: The defining feature of this hike is the thrilling, heart-racing scramble across an exposed, narrow rock spine. With steep drop-offs on both sides, it delivers an adrenaline rush and some of the most Insta-worthy vantage points in South East Queensland.
  • Hinze Dam & Egg Rock Vistas: From the summit lookouts, enjoy uninterrupted aerial views of Advancetown Lake/Hinze Dam directly below, contrasted against the ancient volcanic profile of Egg Rock in nearby Binna Burra.
  • The Shady Creek Cooling-Off Spot: Near the start and end of the trail, the track crosses a pristine, shaded hinterland creek—the absolute perfect spot to soak your feet and cool down after conquering the grueling fire trail.
  • Rugged, Crowdfree Wilderness: Unlike popular Springbrook spots like Natural Bridge or Purling Brook Falls, Pages Pinnacle offers a raw, quiet, and uncommercialized bushwalking experience where you can truly escape the crowds.

Getting There & Essential Safety Tips

  • Location & Parking: The trail is located roughly 20 minutes from Nerang or Springbrook. The most popular western approach begins near the Scouts Numinbah Camp Site on Pine Creek Road. Look for the informal roadside parking gate just off the road.
  • Navigation is Key: The final ascent up the pinnacle is entirely unmarked. It is highly recommended to download an offline GPS map (like AllTrails) before heading out, as phone reception can drop out in the valley.
  • Safety & Gear Checklist: Due to the technical nature of the rock scramble and the vertical cliff faces, this hike is not suitable for children, dogs, or anyone with a severe fear of heights. Be sure to pack at least 2L of water, wear high-grip hiking boots, and leave early in the morning to beat the afternoon Queensland sun.

DANGER: Sheer cliffs. One slip could be fatal—serious injury or death may result from walking near the edge. Keep to the track.
