All About
Point Perpendicular Lighthouse and Lookout
Highlights
Located on the high sandstone cliffs of the Beecroft Peninsula, Point Perpendicular Lighthouse and Lookout is a premier coastal destination guarding the northern entrance to Jervis Bay on the New South Wales South Coast. Perched 90 metres directly above the Pacific Ocean near the quiet seaside town of Currarong, this heritage-listed site offers sweeping panoramic vistas across Jervis Bay's crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and dramatic sea cliffs.
Built in 1899 to safely guide shipping traffic into Jervis Bay, the iconic white cylindrical lighthouse tower stands as an enduring piece of maritime history. Today, it remains one of the top things to do near Jervis Bay and Currarong for sightseers, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Visitors to Point Perpendicular Lookout can enjoy world-class coastal views and explore rugged walking trails across the headland. Between May and November, the sheer cliff edge provides an exceptional vantage point for whale watching, offering front-row seats to humpback whales migrating along the Jervis Bay coastline.
Located a short scenic drive from Currarong within the Beecroft Peninsula, public access to the lighthouse grounds and Jervis Bay lookout paths is available during non-operational periods of the naval range (generally weekends, public holidays, and school holidays).
